Sell Your House In No Time With These 4 Easy Tips
The decision to sell your house is a big one. There is much cleaning, organizing, and even renovations that must be done to get your house looking the best it can. If you’re asking yourself “What can I do to put my best foot forward when I sell my house? Where can I start?” then read on for some tips on how to make your house sell fast.
First Impressions Matter
The first thing a prospective buyer sees when looking through options is the façade of your house. They will flip through pictures of all outside angles, or they may even drive by. The outside of your home, your yard, and your property must be in tip-top shape if you want to entice people to keep scrolling or to come in and check out the inside. Now may just be a good time to invest in some landscaping. Have your lawn professionally mowed, put mulch around trees and flowerbeds, and have any rogue trees trimmed or removed. Get up on a ladder and clean out your gutters, and power wash the siding of your house. All of these things will impress future buyers before they even set foot inside.
A Fresh Coat of Paint
If you have any rooms in your home that need a little refreshing, try some paint. It’s an easy and relatively inexpensive way to brighten up your home and bring it up to date. If one of the bedrooms in your home is still chartreuse green from the 1970s, give it an overhaul and watch it transform in front of your eyes. A word of caution, be sure to keep the tones relatively neutral. Beiges and lighter earth tones are the way to go. Buyers want to be able to visualize themselves in your space and using bright or crazy colors can possibly impede their vision. If your prospective buyers happen to like wild colors, it’s easier for them to imagine a different color on top of a neutral backdrop. If the opposite is true and they like a more classic look, it is much harder for them to imagine a neutral color in a boldly colored room.
Small Touches Add Up
There are so many little things in your home that you can tweak and yield an awesome cumulative result. Change the kitchen backsplash and replace the knobs on your cabinets if these are looking a little dated. You can find these things easily at the local hardware store or online. The best part is, they’re not very expensive and the job can be completed in a short time. Also, take a look at your lighting fixtures. They can also be swapped out relatively quickly, but new ones will give your home a whole new look.
Declutter Your Space
The last thing that potential buyers want to see when they are viewing a house (either online or in-person) is a bunch of, well, stuff. Get rid of the piles of magazines on the coffee table, and store remote controls in a drawer or cabinet. This way they don’t have to mentally sort out the clutter in order to see the true beauty of your home. Cleaning out your closets is another way to achieve this effect. The buyer can’t tell how big the closet is (and let’s face it, everyone loves closet space) with shoes and bags and other items in the way. Remove the excess and keep your closets at a minimum capacity.
That's all there is to it! It's not necessary to completely gut your house or spend tons of money on updates; small improvements can really make all the difference in selling your house fast and making the most of its value.
